Urban Arts Festival 2008

June 21, 2008

June 29th, 2008 is Urban Arts Festival, we went last year and had a great time not familiar with what the Urban Arts Festival is? Heres some blurbage from their homepage:

The Urban Art Festival is an all ages celebration of music, DJs, performance art fashion and hand crafted goods. While showcasing some of the best pacific NW talents, the UAF is a wonderful opportunity for emerging artists and performers. Consider the Urban Art Festival your outlet for artistic desires. It’s not uncommon to see a Glassblower or Graffiti artists creating live at the Tacoma’s Urban Art Festival. Did we mention it’s FREE! Come spend the day with us at Fireman’s Park in downtown Tacoma.

Tacoma help me find this woman

April 11, 2008

Hello Tacoma, yesterday while walking 6th avenue I met a very kind retired woman who lives in a retirement home not far from Jazzbones. She really wanted her photo taken and she explained to me about a camera she once owned. I complemented her on her beautiful eyes and asked if she was once a model. She told me she was for some friends and that she would love to see these photos. When asked what she was looking at she said, “The Heavens”.

This is where I need your help Tacoma,

The only information I have is that her name is Linda/Lynda and that she is at some retirement place in the area called “Northwest _____”.

I would love to hand deliver her some copies of these photos. Please Help :)

Big Win For Skating Downtown

January 30, 2008

Tacoma offers many legal skateparks around town but nothing downtown. As more and more skaters have come downtown to skate all of this beautiful new pavement many businesses started to install ugly skateboard lugs. Skateboard lugs are basically knobs screwed into curbs and ledges every 3 feet or so to deter people from using the ledges for skating.

These things are not cheap and are quite an eyesore to me. A group by the name of “Skaters for Public Skateparks” has partnered with Metro Parks to work with them to create places to skate in their parks with the condition that local advocates from Skaters for Public Skateparks must become official park stewards through the parks department’s volunteer program. This means that these volunteers will recommend repairs throughout the park having to do with skating. This is a big win towards creating a downtown that all groups of people will enjoy. Below is a render of what a $500 dollar cement manual pad would look like in one of our parks.

January 21, 2008

High Performance was a group based outa Tacoma, WA.. They were well known for their dancing skills & blending that with emceeing, “Do You Really Want To Party?” put T-Town on the map. We even got KC from The Sunshine band to do a cameo in the video since the hook is from an original KC & The Sunshine band trac
