Save HellsKitchen This Friday, Feb 27

sprinklerHiphop Saves. When the local hiphop community found out that a favorite venue of its was going to get shutdown by the city of Tacoma for some new regulations now requiring a sprinkler system it quickly began planning a benefit to help raise awareness and money. Numbers going around for a sprinkler system it at around 60k. This is an outrageous number for a small live music venue here on 6th avenue.

Artists John Crown, Can-U, Todd Sykes, Evergreenone, Puget, Auras, SK, and DJ Reign have all donated their talent for the night. If your looking to support a good cause while listening to some extremely talented local artist be sure to stop by hells kitchen tomorrow. The cover is $5 but feel free to donate more.

Keep live music in Tacoma!

Othello, SK, Spaceman, and Can-U making faces melt

Last Wend was yet another amazing night for Fresh Blends at hellskitchen. One of my favorite performances of the night was Othello who came up from Oregon just for the night. His performance was so high energy and his passion for his music shined through. Checkout the video I took:

Also another favorite was the SK/Spaceman set from sportinlife, its really nice to see Hellskitchen to have a dedicated night for local underground hiphop that’s actually gaining momentum in the scene.

Triple Crown soft opening photos

dscn0789 Triple Crown Kings had a soft launch last Saturday, it was a a lot of fun, Sabzi didn’t really show up till like 10:30 though which was a bummer. The store is looking good though, bit more work is going to be done to the interior, going to bring in some art, etc. The store is officially open though, it was nice to see two clothing stores open at 6pm down on Pacific. I hope some other clothing stores work there way into that strip. Now all we need is that apple store moving in, come on steve ;)

Here are a few photos:

Fresh Air Pictures – Robert Daniel Gallery

dscn0804Not going to lie, the air did start off really fresh then by the end of the night it was a bit musky. All was good though everyone was having a ton of fun, the drinks were pouring and only some of the artwork was stolen. Saw tons of familiar faces many of them the same from 100th monkey except this time there was awesome music so everyone was in a drunken dance trance.

The art was good like usual, many of the power players of the south sound were on showcase. Jeremy, Olson, Alice, Mary-Kate, etc. I hadn’t seen gryms work before thought it was pretty cool, the snacks were good too though I always get a little weirded out about big bowls of chips and such since most people don’t was their hands.

Oh yea, here are a few pics from the night. You might spot yourself.

Fresh air is much better then stale air right?

Tonight if your looking for something to do big poppa Matt is throwing another one of his fun parties up at the Robert Daniel Gallery. The lineup includes about 6 artists and 5 djs. It starts at about 10ish. For more information checkout the flier.

My prediction for the night includes lots of techno, lots of wine and much different crowd then what was up there at the 100th monkey.

Inauguration After Party Pics

Yesterday there was such a positive energy everywhere so after work I decided to checkout the celebrating. First stop was the Redhot which I figured was going to be nice and quiet so that I could relax and enjoy a hotdog. Wrong. It was packed! I was able to grab the last seat and people kept coming in. While I was there I had a chance to eye the new bike they plan on giving away. Check it out:
img_1974 (So awesome)

Then I had a buddy preforming over at the Swiss so I decided to go over there and see what that was all about.

If you were 40-60, white, and a democrat you were probably there. It was ridiculous dancing everywhere, Obama signs, huge line at the bar, pins, more old white people.

I didn’t let that stop me from having a good time though, I enjoyed my pint and snapped a few photos of the crowd and the cover band.

Next up on the stage was Josh Rizeberg,

Took a few cool photos of him too.

What did you guys do?

Tacoma’s party punks will be in full force for Guttermouth

guttermouthAs a sophomore in high school, I remember piling into my friends 2 door Nissan sentra with a couple rounds of Busch tall boys on stock ready to tackle whatever was in store for the night. Our main source of music in the disc player? Guttermouth’s “Musical Monkey”. If you’re not hip on these guys, get familiar. It may not be the BEST music, but it is definitely music that will make you want to rage like it’s your 21st birthday all over again. With songs about skateboarders beating up rollerbladers, drinking beers, endless parties, donkey shows in Mexico,  and shitty mothers, this is going to be a gig that will probably pack out Hell’s Kitchen on January 23rd. “We want them to want to come back” says Flash, owner of Hell’s Kitchen. Well Flash,  I’ll be in the house. Maybe with a PBR tall can instead of busch this time. Yes, my game has stepped up.

Tonight at Hells Kitchen: Fresh Blends, D. Black, Grynch, John Crown

Fresh Blends of Hip Hop is proud to bring you Fresh Blends. Tonights lineup at Hells Kitchen is Dblack, Grynch, and John Crown, hosted by Can-U. 21+, $5 cover. This night is not to be missed if you enjoy underground hiphop.

Dockyard Derby Dames Has A Posse

So I’d never gone to a derby dames game until last Saturday. Here is what you are missing.

I was pretty amazed with the turnout, definitely brings more then soccer parking was a bit difficult so be warned. Overall it was fun to watch women on rollerskates bash into each other.
