New Urban Life Style store to open downtown Tacoma

Triple Crown Kings to open a premier lifestyle boutique in Downtown Tacoma next to UrbanXchange. This is some exciting news and will be a test, can downtown Tacoma support a hiphop lifestyle highend boutique shop like in Seattle? Julie has seen success with UrbanXchange which I didn’t think Tacoma was ready for so I really hope this venue makes it too. The two stores will complement nicely and I’m excited to see the influence it will bring to the school of the arts kids.

From the info Ive been able to dig up the people behind the store are the same people who brought together Laced Up, a seattle street wear store on Pike. Laced up has created quite a impact in the last year having all sorts of events and parties showcasing fashion, music and art.
This is one of the most positive things to see happen down on pacific in awhile and I hope them the best and will definitely support

I’m not sure what to make of all of this. I checked out their blog and it seems to me that one could get a very similar look for a fraction of the cost at the local Goodwill store. Maybe this kind of store is the recession proof part of the industry, I could be wrong. Also, I’m not quite sure what this “street wear” business is all about. I think “street wear” and I’m thinking what the people are wearing when they are lined up to get into the homeless shelter. Is this a new trend, homeless chic?
Well what they are going to sell is mostly limited edition clothing, people that shop at such places care about their style and enjoy limited edition products knowing that they wont see someone else wearing what they are. Yeah no joke you might find similar styles at goodwill, I cant afford $40 t-shirts but some can
They also sell limited edition shoes, to get a better idea of what sort of products they will sell checkout http://www.digitalgravel.com, http://hypebeast.com/
Thanks RR
I spoke with David a few weeks ago and he said either the designers or the store was going to be working on affordability due to the economic climate. It sounded like there should be a mix of price ranges.
This “Urban Lifestyle” thing seems to be the popular buzzword in retail development. You also see it at the Tacoma Mall as well in that huge-ass expansion @ Southcenter.
I think it’s kinda funny how this “hip hop” trend is starting to grow here… ironic since it’s the same kind of gangster (although real gangsters and not rich wannabes) is what plagued hilltop in the 80s.
hiphop is not gangster, there is gangster rap which is a genre but dont get twisted hiphop has been suprised because people feel that hiphop = gangster. Hiphop in Tacoma is a good thing, it promotes community, art and dance. Personally I’m not a fan of gangster rap but it does have a place in tacoma, its our roots. I think your getting confused on what hiphop is heres a good definition:
A culture and form of ground breaking music and self expression with elements that consisted of the elements of graffiti art, DJing, MCing, and breaking
thanks
“hiphop is not gangster,”
If it is not “gangster” then why do so many people connect the two together? Could it be the synbolism that is thrust in our faces?
Check out the graphic on the top of the website for TCK and the picture of the hat in the blog article below it.

I would be happy to see this place die, if what they are symbolically promoting is violence and hate.
they are not kevin, stop being a cranky old man
