100th Monkey @ TAM

September 27, 2007

So I decided to take a stroll down to the 100th Monkey event this time being hosted at the Tacoma Art Museum. It was pretty packed lots of old monkeys a few young ones. Each person received a marble that they then waited in a line that went around the food table to receive a little monkey which then put them into a raffle to host the next 100th Monkey.

This is a good way to keep the neighbor kids off the lawn

September 23, 2007

Went for a walk yesterday and look what I saw. I kinda image all the lurkers of my site probably resemble this creature. Or maybe this is what our ASARCO contaminated soil does to us…

Artstumble - The Helm & The Syrens

September 21, 2007

Yesterdays Artwalk was one of the best in awhile. Did I go to the museums? Nope. First I started off by heading over to embellish where I watched the tail end of “The Syrens” performance. I had never seen them perform and it was fun to watch them jam out.

Patricia was handing out complementary moonpies which then led to an individual running to the front and mooning the band…

I then drove over to The Helm and was really amazed at what I saw, I honestly thought it was going to be lame like the A.O.C. gallery that now moved into where Kulture Lab was. Instead I was greeted by some familiar faces but many more new faces… I met one of the owners Peter and he was quite nice.

Intacoma: So I noticed that much of this work is from all over how did you get in contact with so many artists?
Peter: All via the internet, Flickr, Myspace, email
Intacoma: As of right now how many months out is the gallery booked?
Peter: Right now we are have 5 months filled up

The Helm looks quite promising and many of the Kulturelab crew thought it had a very Kulturelab-ish feel to it. The space is amazing it has small little rooms which make it really fun to navigate and see all of the art. They didn’t skimp on the wine which was nice Peters mother was a joy to talk to and she pours a quite generous amount of wine.

The after-party was then over at the Tempest where I got my ass kicked in pool by Alan the owner of Sanford & Son. Just to tell you all know hes doing his famous Haunted House this year so if you want to volunteer or be in it go down there and talk to him.

Another good night in Tacoma.

City Arts failed to mention the Grit about the Stadium District

September 18, 2007

City Arts failed to mention:

  • almost every other morning I am greeted by local crackheads.
  • any patch of grass is full of dog shit
  • Wright Park is home to around 20 drunks, my favorite being the short albino one.
  • living in this area you will be yelled at from across the street for money usually something weird like 39cents
  • when you are asked if you “got white” it means “do you have any cocaine”
  • the low income housing right next to that condo building
  • the local corner gals with the methheads.

I love the area but don’t forget the grit. What else can I add…

Boston Tea Pawty - Pics & Video

September 18, 2007

The Puget Sound Pet Pavilion located at 2505 South 80th Street hosted a Boston Terrier meetup and I was lucky enough to get an invite to check it out.

The owners and dogs were all very friendly and people were excited to tell you everything about their dog. Being an outsider to the group (I don’t have a dog) people had no problem with me playing with their dog it was great to meet owners and hear their experience with this breed.

Maritime Fest - Quick & Dirty Boat Building race video

September 15, 2007

My favorite part of the Maritime Fest is always the Quick & Dirty Boat Building Competition. Participants work on building their boat all day and then race at the end. This year a Canoe-like design won… it was pretty much a frame wrapped in plastic. Checkout the photos and video :) I only made it out as it was wrapping up so I look forward to seeing other peoples photos.

I know people are prob sick of this topic

September 13, 2007

I’ve now had about 5 hello cupcakes most of them chocolate. Everytime I have one it reminded me of something.. I just couldnt put my finger on it though. I’ve finally figured out what the chocolate frosting reminds me of. DUNKAROOS! Do you remember these things they were little gramcrackers shaped like kangaroos with a little area that you could “dunk” them into the chocolate frosting.

So How do you do your Hello Cupcake? I know Ive seen a few of you double fisting ;)
